Following is a Letter to the Editor I submitted which was printed in today’s PDN (for the benefit of those who don’t read the PDN)

CareNet and other related ALL VOLUNTEER organizations are dedicated to helping pregnant women and their babies during and after pregnancy. They do not do any medical procedures other than providing pregnancy tests and ultrasound pictures so the woman can see the live, moving human in her womb. They get no government support. Costs are paid by individual donors and churches. So who can be opposed to what they are doing?

Planned Parenthood, the nation’s biggest abortion mill (heavily supported by your tax dollars - Over $350 million last year), is the opposition. They fear a pregnant woman might wander into one of these offices and decide to Not kill her baby. They are assisted by our two representatives in the legislature, Kevin Van de Wege and Steve Tharinger. Both are co-sponsors of HB1366, which is clearly designed to put pregnancy helpers like CareNet out of business. I asked for their motivation (Friday, Jan 28) - so far no response.

Senator Jim Hargrove, on the other hand , opposes the senate version , SB 5274 - - - as he did last year’s unsuccessful attempt.

When Concerned Citizens of Clallam County (FourC) requested a list of lobbyists who visited their offices , Tharinger and Van de Wege, each said “NO”. Perhaps they are bashful about admitting support from The baby killing Lobby?

Do the folks of the 24th district realize who they have elected? I am quite sure neither Dan Gase nor Jim McEntire would have supported this bill, they both believe in the sanctity of life.

Van de Wege made no response to my request to him for motive, but did respond to the PDN asking them to hold the letter - which to their credit they did not do. Tharinger gives a list of things it demands of the organizations - things they already do - and must do.

The real purpose of 1366 is, as I have stated, to put these pregnancy help organizations out of business. With this law in place, planned parenthood can have their operatives call or come in to ask questions, then be used as phony witnesses claiming they were left uniformed. (We have recently seen examples of their contempt for the law regarding pregnant teen-age prostitutes).

It would seem that PP is only concerned about their bottom line and does not want any “competition” from people who want babies to live.

I’ve been, catching a little flack for an LTE in the PDN about the pro-life groups. My LTE no doubt hurt the feelings of msrs Van de Wege and Tharinger (our 24th district state reps), both sponsors of HB 1366 - a bill obviously drafted to put down CareNet and other pregnancy helper organizations. One lady of my acquaintance informed me that since I am a man and have never been pregnant, I just don’t understand. On the other hand, several women have had favorable things to say about the piece - - including my wife who is an RN besides being a grandmother and former CareNet volunteer.

Mr Tharinger responded that the bill was designed to force the pro-life organizations to do three things:

“Disclose clearly and specifically what services they do and do not offer.” That’s a tall order. They don’t fix her car or provide an abortion and the list of all the things they don’t do would take all day, also they do provide pregnant women with some survival training, such as budgeting and how to balance a check book. They do have a large, (state dictated) sign that states they are not a medical facility. How many organizations do you know that “provide a list of services they do NOT provide”?

“Provide results of a pregnancy test immediately”. Time of results is out of their hands. The test results aren’t available immediately - it takes four minutes - and while it’s fairly accurate, it’s not 100%. They inform the woman of this and offer to retest if necessary. Of course, the woman has the alternative to purchase the test kit with instructions at just about any drug store (where they do not have a sign indicating they are not a medical facility - last I heard) and do the test in the privacy of her own home.

“Protect the privacy of women’s health records”. Seems like the sign takes care of that one too, since they don’t do any medical procedures. Maybe, Mr. T should visit a CareNet facility - or if he is too bashful to do that, send in his wife or some other woman he trusts. If he is too busy to do that, then why is he authoring legislation about it?

Clearly, the bill does not do anything positive. But, it does provide the big abortion mill - planned parenthood, with some rules that by careful manipulation, they might be able to file a lawsuit against the pro-life groups which would shut them down, since they are entirely supported by donations and do not have the US government provided millions (over $350million last year) that PP gets, and could not support defense of a series of lawsuits however obscure their bases might be.

$350 million taxpayer dollars provides enough scratch to buy a few politicians. I also personally deeply resent my tax dollars being spent to kill babies or buy politicians.

On Jan. 28th, I asked for Van de Wege’s reasons for sponsoring the bill. To date, I have received no response to that request. He did not give any particulars to the Newspaper - only a request to hold the letter. To PDN’s credit, they did not accede to that request. Kevin you seem very bashful.

I wonder just what behind the scenes arguments are going on to decide who’s state largess is going to be cut. One would think the Olympia politicos would be completely taken up by that and would not have time to beat up on people and organizations that cost the state nothing and do, in fact, save it some money.
