Shooting Park in Clallam County ~

The Pacific Northwest Shooting Park Association has planned a county park in Clallam County, WA which will include
100yd, 200yd and 300yd rifle ranges, black powder ranges,   and a separate shooting range for law enforcement officers.

The PNSPA has been holding gun shows for several years which are entirely manned by volunteer help, with all the profits being
banked to be used to build a shooting park.  Clallam County Commissioners have agreed to help in the permitting (which promises
to be expensive) if the PNSPA takes care of the rest.

Currently, negotiations are stalled by the Department of Natural Resources who are demanding a very
expensive EIS before they will transfer back to Clallam County it's ownproperty for purposes of a park.
The EIS would not guarantee DNR's approval, so it is hard to see how it could be financed.
Legislators must act.  -  Kevin Van de Wege / Steve Tharinger ~ Jim Hargrove ~ where are you? ~

           Multiple claims by the naysayers:
1 - That the area is a wetland - Not true - Fir trees growing there.
2- That it will kill salmon - Not True  - no salmon in the area - and lead will be collected in bunkers
3- That lead will melt and run downstream - Not True - Lead is insuluable - and does not float

Adult salmon cannot navigate it or construct redds.

-
Naysayers say we must find a better location.  They have been saying that for the past
40 years about every location.  They just don't want anybody to shoot - meanwhile people
are shooting in gravel pits into old cedar stumps, etc where lead cannot be recovered
and proper safeguards do not exist.

Law officers are now forced to practice at the garbage dump .
The park will provide a separate range for use of law officers.
Does anybody want law officers to NOT SHOOT ACCURATELY?
Lead will be captured in bunkers that can be mined and lead sold.

A visit to Paul Bunyan Shooting Park near Puyallup

Built in 1929 serving shooters for 81 years.  It was placed out in the country
originally.  But, the country has moved in around it.  A busy highway on one
side.  Private homes and businesses all around.  Those folks knew they were
moving next to a shooting range - but, the fact is that the highway noise is
about as extreme as the gun shots.

Rules that are enforced for all users of the range

Covered area is 200 yd shooting stands

Berms are dirt covered by wood chips.  Target risers are counter weighted
to make them easy to raise and lower.  Lights are for night shooting.  Range
is open until 10 PM.
